Deeper orange larger flower with improved vase life. The leaves also mark less easily. Similiar in timing to Summer. 90 -150cm
Pot Plant Varieties Sow Spring/Summer, direct into 10-15cm pot. Rapid growth, so requires feeding with each watering. Sell with main bud in flower, and lateral buds developing. Cut Flower Varieties Sow April-mid June, direct into the flowering position. Row width depends on variety (up to 40cm for largest varieties); spacing between plants around 12-15cm. Lightly cover seeds, and keep moist. Germination optimum 20°C, minimum 5°C. From sowing to first cutting is approximately 60 days in mid Summer - plants flower July-September. Denser plantings or excess nitrogen can lead to smaller flowerheads with less robust stems. Cut flowers just before first ray petals open. Treatment of stems with holding solution can prolong vase life. Seed count varies greatly from one variety to another. Pollen-free Varieties Pollen-free types can be sown under glass September to March, and outdoors April to August. Sow directly, cover with soil and maintain temperature around 10°C. Approx. 10 days after emergence, thin out to leave the best seedlings, spaced at around 10-12cm in each direction. High density production suppresses the production of sideshoots. Minimum night temperature 8°C, with a maximum of 25°C in the daytime. Provide little or no fertilizer, and water sparingly.
