Double form open faced and larger florets, this tall series make an excellent cut flower, as well as an impressive display for beds and borders. 50-75cm
‘Snapdragon’. Annual, which can be sown early and sold April onwards as it is tolerant of low temperatures. Sow January-February, germinates 7-10 days at 18-21°C. Sowing-flowering 14-16 weeks. 6,500 seeds per gram, sow 1/4g for 1,000 plants.
Compact varieties such as Floral Showers are sold in 6 or 9 packs in bud or in flower. They can also be sown in June-July and sold in flower in pots in Autumn.
Taller varieties are sold in 9-packs or strip trays as green plants with label. Taller F1 hybrids such as Liberty Classic and Sonnet are ideal for formal bedding schemes.
Candy Showers is a trailing hanging basket variety for Spring and Autumn sales.
Cut Flower Technical Information:
Sow at 18-21°C, transplant into modules. Sow September onwards for planting out in unheated glass/ tunnels for Spring cropping. Sow February for planting outdoors May onwards for Summer Cropping. Or sow July for cropping under unheated glass/tunnels in late Autumn. Plant out at 25x25cm, pinching out tips. Thin to 4-5 of strongest shoots per plant. Requires support with crop netting. Cut when spikes are one third open. Feed crop well. Rocket, Madame Butterfly and the Potomac Series are cut flower types.
